Hi! I’m Lorrin Schofield.
I was born and raised in Cedar Falls, Iowa, a middle child with a creative mind and a heart for human connection.
In college, while studying accounting, I started to doubt the career field that I had chosen, not sure if it really fit with who I am at my core. At the time (and still to this day!) I also worked as a youth minister at my church, Cedar Falls First United Methodist. It was during this time that I developed a passion for personal finance and its connection to our Christian faith— the two things that I was constantly learning about.
Upon graduation and landing my first full time job as an accountant, I knew that I needed a creative outlet to fulfill the parts of me that my full time job just couldn’t. I began writing, just to put my thoughts to paper, and my writing eventually developed some themes: Faith, Finance, and Life.
Over the course of about a year, I had written a series of 12 devotions on various personal finance topics, along with activities that I designed to accompany each of them. All of this became a book— Faith and Finance: 12 Deep-Dive Devotional Activities to Help You Manage Your Money God’s Way.
In January of 2024, I published my book during Cedar Falls First United Methodist Church’s Generosity Campaign. My original hope for my book was that it would help people develop healthy financial habits that bring them closer to God, and while that is still a huge hope, I also have a new hope for it, too: That it will serve to inspire others and show them what we are all capable of when we create the things that we know how to create, and go out and share them with the world. For as long as the first edition of my book is being sold, $2 from every copy sold will go directly to the missions and ministry of Cedar Falls First United Methodist Church.
After publishing my book, I wanted to continue writing and connecting with others. This website was created to serve that exact purpose. As a full-time accountant and a part-time youth minister, I love getting to mesh those two seemingly opposite worlds in a way that brings out my creativity and joy.
My mission is to help others live a joyful and fulfilling life through fresh perspectives on faith, finance, and more. I’m so glad you’re here!
